When most folks buy property insurance the first thing that gets considered or compared is the premium cost. Unfortunately, the most important consideration needs to be the particular coverage you are getting and the companies reputation for handling claims. Far less consideration is usually given to those details.

It can be difficult to determine which insurance companies best take care of their customers in the event of a claim. But you can fully review the policy that you are being offered before you buy it to decide if the coverage is right for you. If you experience a loss that compels you to file an insurance claim with your policy, you will at least know you are properly covered.

Whether the insurance company will happily meet their obligations on determining claim liability and subsequent proper payment of what your owed is a much more complicated scenario. Harvey Braden III with Harvey Roofing & Construction shares some insight into the tangled web of property casualty insurance pitfalls.
